SATURDAY of the NINETEENTH WEEK

GOSPEL
Matthew 19:13-15
Children were brought to Jesus that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked them, but Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” After he placed his hands on them, he went away.

HOMILY

Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.
In today’s gospel we hear that some very happy parents are trying to bring their children to Jesus to be blessed. This is the same dynamic that occurs today when happy parents bring their children to Church to be baptized. Parents instinctively want what is best for their children. Those who saw Jesus that day knew that he was a good and holy man, and so they brought their children to him to partake in his goodness and holiness. Parents today, who love the Lord Jesus, feel the same way: a desire to bring their children to Jesus so that they too can participate in his goodness and holiness. But in today’s gospel we witness that the parents are encountering some major opposition from the Lord’s own disciples, who are trying to protect him and his busy schedule from all these “distractions”. When they block the parents from bringing their children to him, Jesus, thankfully, intervenes and tells them, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” What we learn from this beautiful moment in the life of our Lord is that his heartfelt desire is for us, his children, to approach him with childlike trust so that we may find in him the fullness of life in the Kingdom of heaven. Never doubt that the One True GΘD of the infinite universe will always take time out of his busy schedule to be with his children, in spite of any and all obstacles that others—both demonic and human—may try to place in our way.

Mateo 19, 13-15
En aquel tiempo, le presentaron unos niños a Jesús para que les impusiera las manos y orase por ellos. Los discípulos regañaron a la gente; pero Jesús les dijo: “Dejen a los niños y no les impidan que se acerquen a mí, porque de los que son como ellos es el Reino de los cielos”. Después les impuso las manos y continuó su camino.

HOMILÍA

Dejen a los niños y no les impidan que se acerquen a mí, porque de los que son como ellos es el Reino de los cielos.
En el evangelio de hoy escuchamos que algunos padres muy felices están tratando de llevar a sus hijos a Jesús para que los bendiga. Esta es la misma dinámica que ocurre hoy cuando los padres felices llevan a sus hijos a la Iglesia para ser bautizados. Los padres quieren instintivamente lo mejor para sus hijos. Los que vieron a Jesús ese día sabían que era un hombre bueno y santo, y por eso le llevaron a sus hijos para que participaran de su bondad y santidad. Los padres de hoy, que aman al Señor Jesús, sienten lo mismo: el deseo de llevar a sus hijos a Jesús para que ellos también puedan participar de su bondad y santidad. Pero en el evangelio de hoy somos testigos de que los padres se encuentran con una gran oposición por parte de los propios discípulos del Señor, que están tratando de protegerlo a él y a su apretada agenda de todas estas “distracciones”. Cuando impiden que los padres le traigan a sus hijos, Jesús, agradecido, interviene y les dice: “Dejen a los niños y no les impidan que se acerquen a mí, porque de los que son como ellos es el Reino de los cielos”. Lo que aprendemos de este hermoso momento en la vida de nuestro Señor es que su más sincero deseo es que nosotros, sus hijos, nos acerquemos a Él con la confianza de un niño para que podamos encontrar en Él la plenitud de la vida en el Reino de los cielos. Nunca dudes que el Único DIΘS Verdadero del universo infinito siempre se tomará un tiempo de su apretada agenda para estar con sus hijos, a pesar de todos y cada uno de los obstáculos que otros, tanto demoníacos como humanos, puedan intentar colocar en nuestro camino.
